Working for the weekend

This past weekend was a very relaxing one, thankfully!  Friday we just ordered pizza & hung out & caught up on taped shows like we normally do.

Saturday morning Reese woke up fever-free!  Hallelujah!  She was still a little cranky, but at least on the path to feeling better.  We wanted to get out of the house, but it's way too hot outside & we didn't want to venture too far, so we headed to the mall.

We had lunch at BJ's Brewhouse & then Cam got to jump on the trampoline for the first time ever!  He had such a blast!

He would have stayed on that thing for hours if they let him.

Speaking of Cam, I know I mentioned in this post that we're trying to get him to keep his stinkin butt in bed at night, but it isn't going very well.  Out of 7 nights, he probably stays in bed without getting up at all about 1-2 times.  Once he falls asleep, he stays still until morning.

I just don't know what he's thinking... it's like he just will not let himself stay put.  The other night I was on my own while Mike played poker & he was so close to just letting himself fall asleep when I watched temptation win as he slinked out.  When I told him that he was no longer eligible for his prize, all hell broke loose & he cried & cried.

I told him, sorry pal, but you knew the rules!  Yep, I'm tough like that.  It was funny & sad at the same time as I watched him on his monitor while he knelt in bed repeating & crying over & over, "But Mommy, I want a prize!"

I couldn't handle watching him anymore so I stepped in & calmed him down.  The next morning as he sat on the couch he told me, "Mommy, I just cried & cried & then I fell asleep!"  What a goofball.  I just don't know what I'm going to do with that kid!

After the kids went to bed on Saturday night, we decided to make a homemade pasta dinner; sauce, noodles & all.  We'd never made our own pasta & don't have a pasta machine to roll it out so ours was very rustic!  It came out a bit chewy, so we'll have to tweak the technique next time!  The sauce was quick & delicious though & I highly recommend it.  Click here to check it out!

And Sunday was church & hanging out with friends over lunch & dinner at our house.  Very relaxing!  Amazingly enough, both kids napped for about two hours at the same time so the adults were able to converse without interruption!

Tonight I'm a little irritated & impatient because I'm so tired of the never ending to-do list.  As I folded the millionth load of laundry this weekend, I joked with Mike & Cam that I'm retiring from washing their clothes!  And here I am, typing away, hearing the annoying call of the just-stopped dryer.  Sometimes I wish I could live in Mike's world where things like undone laundry didn't bother me.  What a peaceful world that would be!

Anyway, I've rambled enough for one night.  Also, can't forget about the laundry that's calling my name!  I hope you all had a great weekend too!

  1. I would like to retire from laundry as well!!! I have read that it sometimes helps to have separate hampers for all family members and then wash all their clothes separately so that there is no separating and going to all different rooms to put away when you finish the load...That is my new technique I want to try. Re: Cam - the kid just doesn't want to miss out on any fun!!! Who can blame him, the Perno household is an exciting place to be!

  2. Lesli, I tried the separate hamper thing when we were living in our townhouse in IL & it lasted for about a month. Mike has about ten million boxers & t-shirts so felt he had no need to wash his clothes until they were nearly hitting the ceiling! IF we get the house we have a bid out on, we'd have his & her's closets so it could possibly work then, but only time will tell.

Lately when Cam goes to bed he says, "But, you're not going to sleep!" I tell him, "We are the adults & you are not!" Stinker!
